The Spaghetti Racket: A Tennis Revolution

The spaghetti racket was a unique and controversial innovation in tennis, designed to create extreme spin and unpredictable ball behavior. Invented by Werner Fischer, it gained notoriety in the hands of players like Michael Fischbach and Ilie Nastase, who famously used it against Vitas Gerulaitis. After the incident, intervention by Ion Čširiac led to the racket being banned, and since then, all tennis racket strings must be woven.

On this page, you can explore the process behind the spaghetti stringing technique. Step-by-step photos show how the strings are reproduced, culminating in the final result of my own version. This collection not only highlights the ingenuity of the original design but also allows a closer look at one of tennis history’s most intriguing experiments.
